Downloading

To participate in the video version of the course you must first download the free RealSystem 8.0 Basic player and install it. This process generally takes no more than 10 minutes.

If you do not want to install the video player, you can always take the "text" version of the course, or switch to it, by selecting the "text" option when you "Re-enter the Course."

Many students find the text version of the course to be slightly faster than the video, and certainly less "conspicuous".

Please note, older versions of RealPlayer G2 are incompatible with the course. If you are using G2, please make sure it is a new version.

Windows 95/98

Remember, installation is a TWO-STEP process, first you need to download the player, then you need to find the file you downloaded and double-click it so that the installation process will start.

  1. Click on one of the links below to begin downloading the RealPlayer:

RealPlayer 8.0 Basic

  1. When prompted, choose Save to Disk and specify the directory where you want the RealPlayer installation program to be saved.

  2. Locate and double-click on the file you downloaded by exploring your hard drive or choosing the Run option in the Start menu. (The file is where your Web browser saved it.) This will begin the RealPlayer setup process.

  3. For more detailed installation directions from the Real website, click here.

  4. While full screen video is not used by WebTrafficSchool,  if your system can support it, the installation software may tell you that you need DirectX or new video drivers, and offer to take you to the full screen help site.

Windows NT/2000

  1. Your Web browser should launch a helper application to convert the downloaded file into an executable application. Simply double-click on the application to install the RealPlayer.
  1. If the file maintains the .hqx extension, please read Real's help page for Macintosh downloads.
  1. The RealPlayer works best with the latest release of Apple's Sound Manager software. QuickTime 2.5 comes with the latest Sound Manager release. If you have a version of Sound Manager older than v.3.2, Real recommends that you download and install QuickTime 2.5 before installing the RealPlayer.
